1. Our Right to Update These Policies
As Comprehenza grows and evolves — and as the legal and technical landscape around children's apps, data privacy, and educational technology continues to develop — we may need to update our Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, or any related legal document from time to time. We reserves the right to make such changes at our discretion, subject to the notification obligations described in this page.
We take our obligation to keep our policies current seriously, both for legal compliance and as a matter of trust with the families who use Comprehenza. We will never make a significant change quietly. Our commitment is that any change that affects your rights, your child's privacy, or the core nature of the service will be communicated clearly and in advance.
This page serves as the central record of all policy changes, both past and future. We encourage parents and guardians to bookmark this page and review it periodically.
2. What Counts as a "Material Change"
Not all updates to our policies are equally significant. We distinguish between:
- Material Changes: Changes that meaningfully affect your rights as a parent/guardian, your child's privacy, the scope of data we collect, the core features of the service, how you can resolve disputes, or the governing law. Material changes require advance notice (see Section 3). Examples include:
- Expanding the types of personal data we collect or process.
- Introducing new third-party data processors or service providers.
- Making significant changes to core features or how the service is delivered.
- Making significant changes to how the Toxicity Guard or ReadBuddy operates.
- Altering the grade range of users we serve.
- Modifying the pedagogical framework or assessment methodology (CQ scoring).
- Changes to governing law or dispute resolution procedures.
- Minor or Clarifying Changes: Updates that correct typographical errors, improve the clarity or readability of existing provisions without changing their meaning, add explanatory examples, update contact information, or reflect minor operational adjustments. Such changes may take effect immediately upon posting, without advance notice, though the "Last Updated" date will always be revised.
3. How We Will Notify You of Material Changes
When we make a material change to any of our policies, we will notify you in the following ways, providing at least 30 days' advance notice before the change takes effect:
- Email Notification: We will send a clear, plain-language email to the parent/guardian's registered email address explaining: (a) what is changing, (b) why it is changing, (c) when it will take effect, and (d) what your options are if you disagree with the change.
- In-App Notification: An in-app banner or alert will be displayed upon the next launch of the Comprehenza iOS application, directing the parent/guardian to review the updated policy.
- Updated "Last Updated" Date: The "Last Updated" date at the top of every affected policy page will be revised to reflect the date of the change. The "Effective Date" will reflect when the new policy version formally takes effect.
- Version History: A brief summary of what changed will be added to the Policy Changelog section at the bottom of this page (Section 8), so you can always track the history of changes at a glance.
For changes that are especially significant — such as material changes to our Privacy Policy affecting children's data — we will obtain fresh, affirmative consent from the registered parent/guardian before the change takes effect, rather than relying on continued use as implied consent.
4. Your Choices When We Make Changes
You are always in control. If we notify you of a material change to our policies and you do not agree with the new terms, you have the following options:
- Accept the Changes: Continue using Comprehenza after the effective date of the new policy. Continued use constitutes your acceptance of the updated terms, unless we have specifically required affirmative consent for the change in question.
- Delete Your Account: You may delete your child's account and all associated data at any time, without cost or penalty, directly from the Profile tab within the iOS application. Account deletion is permanent and irreversible. All personal data will be purged within 30 days as described in our Privacy Policy.
- Contact Us for Clarification: If you are uncertain about what a change means for you and your child, please email us at comprehenza.support@gmail.com before the effective date. We are happy to explain the change in plain language and discuss any concerns you have.
- Export Your Data: Before deleting your account, you may request a copy of your child's data (including CQ scores, reading history, and progress reports) by emailing comprehenza.support@gmail.com. We will provide this data within 30 days in a commonly used, machine-readable format.
We will never penalize you for choosing to delete your account in response to a policy change. There are no data retention penalties for users who choose to leave.
5. Transition Periods
When a material change takes effect, the following transition rules apply:
- Grace Period: For changes that restrict user rights or expand data collection, we will provide a minimum 30-day grace period during which the previous version of the affected policy continues to apply to existing users. This gives you time to review the changes and make an informed decision.
- New Users: Users who register after the effective date of a policy change are bound by the new version of the policy from the date of their registration.
- No Retroactive Application: Material changes to our policies will not be applied retroactively. Actions taken under a previous version of our policies will continue to be governed by that version.
- Continued Availability: We will ensure that both the current and immediately prior version of each policy document remain accessible during any transition period, so you can compare changes.
6. Changes Driven by Apple App Store Requirements
As a Kids Category application on the Apple App Store, Comprehenza is subject to Apple's App Store Review Guidelines (specifically Section 5.1.4 — Kids Category). Apple periodically updates these guidelines, and we may be required to update our policies or app behaviour to maintain compliance with Apple's requirements.
In such cases, changes may need to take effect on a timeline set by Apple rather than our standard 30-day notice period. Where this occurs, we will:
- Notify you as promptly as possible via email and in-app notification.
- Clearly explain that the change is required by Apple's guidelines and describe what is changing.
- Ensure that any Apple-mandated change is in your and your child's interest — Apple's Kids Category guidelines are specifically designed to protect child users, and compliance with them strengthens rather than weakens our safety standards.
7. Changes Driven by Law
Changes to applicable laws — such as amendments to COPPA, the introduction of India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDP Act, 2023), new GDPR guidance, or changes to other applicable data protection regulations — may also require us to update our policies. Legal compliance changes may take effect on the date required by law. We will notify you of such changes as soon as practicable and explain how the legal change affects our practices and your rights.
We view legal compliance not as a burden but as a baseline. Our aim is to exceed the minimum requirements of applicable law, and changes driven by new legislation will typically reflect us raising our standards further.
8. Policy Changelog
Below is a record of all significant changes to Comprehenza's legal documents. This log will be updated with each material change.
Version 1.0
May 30, 2025
Initial publication of all Comprehenza legal documents — Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, Copyright & IP Policy, User Conduct Policy, Our Commitment to You, Dispute Resolution, Changes to Terms, and the Team page. All policies reflect the initial launch of the Comprehenza iOS application, ages 11–14, with full COPPA compliance and Apple Kids Category standards.
This changelog will be updated as future material changes are made. Each entry will include the version number, effective date, and a plain-language summary of what changed.
9. Archival of Previous Versions
We believe in full transparency regarding the evolution of our policies. To that end:
- Previous versions of all legal documents will be archived and available upon request by emailing comprehenza.support@gmail.com.
- Each archived version will be identified by its version number and effective date range.
- We will retain archived versions for a minimum of three (3) years after they are superseded.
If you have any questions about the differences between a current and previous version of any policy, please contact us and we will provide a plain-language explanation.
10. Contacting Us About Policy Changes
