1. Why We Built Comprehenza
We built Comprehenza from a place of genuine purpose. We identified a critical gap in the digital educational landscape: most literacy tools either drown children in gamification that overwhelms learning, or offer dry, joyless drill exercises that fail to motivate. Comprehenza was designed to occupy the middle ground — a focused, clean, research-backed platform that makes reading skill development intrinsically rewarding without resorting to manipulative design patterns.
Our team consists of developers who care deeply about child safety and education. We are committed to growing Comprehenza into a tool that parents trust absolutely and children genuinely benefit from. This page outlines the specific promises we make to our community to hold ourselves accountable.
2. Commitment to a Pure Educational Experience
We commit to maintaining the following standards in every version of the Comprehenza App:
- Zero Advertisements: Comprehenza will never display advertisements of any kind to child users. We will never accept advertising revenue that depends on the attention or behavioural data of children. Our revenue model will always be based on direct relationships with families — never on advertising.
- No Predatory Monetization: We will never implement loot boxes, gambling mechanics, artificial scarcity, or any other dark pattern tactics. Comprehenza is and will always be free — your child's experience will never be gated behind a paywall or purchase prompt.
- Focused Interface Design: The Comprehenza interface is designed to minimize distraction and maximize focus on reading and comprehension tasks. We commit to never bloating the app with features or entertainment content unrelated to literacy development.
- Research-Grounded Content Only: Every piece of educational content in Comprehenza — whether generated by AI or curated by our team — will always be calibrated against established, peer-reviewed readability and pedagogical standards, primarily the Flesch-Kincaid scale. We will never compromise on educational quality for the sake of volume or novelty.
3. Commitment to Child Safety and Apple Kids Category Standards
Comprehenza is listed in the Apple App Store's Kids Category. This is not just a category label — it is a commitment to a specific and rigorous set of safety standards set by Apple (App Store Review Guidelines, Section 5.1.4). We commit to upholding each of these requirements:
- Parental Gate on All Outbound Links: Every link in the App that leads outside the controlled educational environment — including links to these legal pages, the support email, and any external references — will always require a parent to pass a verification challenge before a child can proceed. This prevents children from inadvertently navigating away from the app.
- No Behavioural Tracking for Advertising: We will never use behavioural tracking, interest-based profiling, or cross-app tracking for advertising purposes for any user — but especially not for children. Our data collection is limited strictly to what is necessary for the educational function of the App.
- COPPA Compliance: We will always require verifiable parental consent via the parent/guardian email before activating a child's account, in full compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
- Ongoing Safety Review: We commit to reviewing and updating our content safety systems — including the Toxicity Guard — on a regular basis to ensure they remain effective against evolving patterns of misuse. We will not allow safety systems to degrade or become outdated.
- Age-Appropriate Content Certification: All content in the App is rated and reviewed to be appropriate for the 11–14 age group. We will not allow content that is violent, sexual, hateful, or otherwise inappropriate for this demographic to exist anywhere in the App.
4. Commitment to Transparency
We believe parents deserve complete transparency about how Comprehenza works. We commit to:
- Plain-Language Policies: Our legal documents, including this one, are written in clear, accessible language. We actively avoid legal jargon where it is not strictly necessary. If you don't understand any part of our policies, please email us — we will explain it in plain language.
- Advance Notice of Material Changes: If we make any significant changes to our Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, or core product features that affect child safety or data handling, we will notify the registered parent email address with at least 30 days' advance notice before those changes take effect.
- Always Free: Comprehenza is completely free to download and use. There are no hidden fees, paid upgrades, subscriptions, or in-app purchases of any kind. Every feature available in the App is accessible to all users at no cost.
5. Commitment to Continuous Improvement
Comprehenza is in active development. We commit to continuously improving the App based on:
- Parent and Guardian Feedback: We actively welcome and respond to feedback from parents about the educational quality, safety, and usability of the App. Email us at comprehenza.support@gmail.com with any suggestions.
- Evolving Research: The science of reading instruction and literacy development is a growing field. We commit to staying current with research publications and incorporating evidence-based improvements into our content calibration and pedagogy.
- Safety System Updates: As new forms of misuse or safety concerns emerge, we commit to updating our Toxicity Guard and other safety systems promptly. We will not deprioritize safety for the sake of speed of development.
- Accessibility: We are committed to making Comprehenza accessible to as many children as possible, including exploring accessibility features for children with dyslexia and other reading differences. We will incorporate accessibility improvements in future updates.
6. Commitment to Accessibility and Inclusivity
Reading comprehension challenges affect children from all backgrounds. We are committed to developing Comprehenza in a way that is inclusive and sensitive to diverse learners:
- Reading passages in the Library are curated to represent diverse voices, genres, and cultural perspectives, exposing children to a broad world of literature and ideas.
- The Comprehenza Quotient (CQ) scoring system is designed to celebrate growth and progress, not to stigmatize children who are at lower starting points. Every child begins at a Novice level, and the system is designed to make every step of progress feel meaningful and motivating.
- We are actively researching how to better serve children with specific reading differences, such as dyslexia, and plan to incorporate targeted support features in future versions of the App.
7. Holding Ourselves Accountable
We recognize that commitments are only as valuable as the mechanism for holding us to them. Here is how you can hold us accountable:
- If you believe we have violated any of the commitments on this page, or any provision of our Terms of Service or Privacy Policy, please contact us at comprehenza.support@gmail.com. We will treat every complaint seriously and respond within 10 business days.
- You can review the App Store listing for Comprehenza, which reflects the standards Apple has verified and approved. Any violation of Apple's Kids Category guidelines can also be reported directly to Apple via the App Store review system.
- You can delete your account and all associated data at any time via the Profile tab in the App. The ability to easily leave is the ultimate check on our conduct as a service provider.
